Peter Howson
Peter Howson was born in 1958 and then moved to Scotland in his childhood and enrolled in the Glasgow School of Art in 1975.
In 1983, after graduating from University, Peter débuted his first public commission, a series of wall murals dedicated to the community in Feltham, London. From this point on, Peter has built a reputation as one of his generation’s most formidable figurative artists and has consistently exhibited both internationally and in the United Kingdom.
Tony Hinchliffe
Tony Hinchliffe is a figurative artist celebrated for his evocative, expressive style, capturing mood and intimacy through layered oil paintings. He studied figures extensively from life, a practice that honed his skill in portraying the subtleties of body language.
Tony’s work draws inspiration from nature and his own adventurous spirit; he often explores landscapes and skies at altitude in a paramotor, studying the light and atmosphere at several thousand feet. Alongside his personal practice, Tony teaches figure drawing and painting, continuously refining his approach to capture the energy and emotion in each piece.
Helen M. Turner
Helen M. Turner is a celebrated Scottish painter renowned for her vibrant coastal scenes and still lifes. A graduate of the Glasgow School of Art (1952–1960), Turner balanced her studies with a career as a designer, which informed her meticulous attention to detail and composition in her artwork.
She was a member of the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, Glasgow Society of Women Artists, Ayr Sketch Club and other local art organisations. She also showed with Thompson’s Gallery and Brian Sinfield Gallery, Burford. Robert Fleming Holdings and other corporate collections held examples.
Turner’s legacy is one of capturing the essence of Scotland’s natural beauty and the charm of everyday objects, celebrating the vibrancy of life through her distinctive artistic lens.
Peter M Drewitt
Peter M. Drewitt is a self-taught artist whose evocative landscapes capture the rugged beauty of Scotland’s wild places. Born with an insatiable love for the outdoors, Drewitt began exploring the Scottish Highlands at fourteen, braving the elements to immerse himself in nature’s drama. This connection to the land fueled a lifelong passion for painting. Without formal art training, he honed his craft independently, inspired by moors, lochs, and mountains bathed in ever-changing light. His works, rich with color and detail, invite viewers to experience the vastness and intimacy of nature, preserving moments that resonate deeply with the soul.
James Harrigan
James Harrigan is a graduate of Glasgow School of Art where he studied Painting and Printmaking between 1956 and 1961. He was born in Ayr in 1937 and has continued to live in Ayrshire all his life. He taught Art for many years and was an inspiring teacher with many of his pupils going on themselves to develop successful careers as artists.
In recent years James has spent time in the West Indies and in Brazil but he never tires of painting the landscape and coastline around his Ayrshire home and elsewhere in Scotland. He is known mainly as a landscape artist but his landscapes are almost invariably informed by a human presence and day to day activities, a sense of life being lived.
He exhibits widely and has work in many collections including those of the House of Lords, Glasgow University, P & O Cruises, Wigtownshire Education Trust and the Maclaurin Gallery. He is a past winner of the prestigious Laing Landscape Competition and the Scotsman Art Competition.
Leigh D Walker
Leigh D Walker is a classically trained artist who specialises in drawing and painting.
Born in south-west Scotland, she completed her Batchelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in Fine Art at Edinburgh College of Art/Heriot Watt University in 1998. After working as a professional artist and lecturer, she returned to her studies to complete a Master of Fine Arts Degree at Edinburgh College of Art/Edinburgh University in 2006.
Being the recipient of numerous awards, Leigh’s work has been exhibited widely in the UK and Australia. Her art has been shown in venues such as The Royal Scottish Academy, The National Portrait Gallery (London), the Mall Galleries (London) and The Scottish Gallery. Leigh’s drawings and paintings are held in public and private collections throughout the UK and Australia.
Leigh’s art has featured in the BP Portrait Award Official Calendar, The Financial Times (UK), The Mail on Sunday and Livewire Magazine.
Ed Slater
Ed Slater was born in Ayr, 1947. Having served his apprenticeship as a carpet weaver he left to join the Royal Marines and retired in 1987 after 22 years service.
Deciding to enhance his worldly knowledge, he joined the Open University gaining a Diploma in European Humanities and, after six years part-time study, was awarded his BA Hons. It was during his studies that he found his love of art, being inspired by himself. Ed took up art fifteen years ago and, with no training, experimented with his new found passion. He became a member of the Portsmouth and Hampshire Art Society and sold his work from local galleries. Since moving back to Scotland, Ed has become a member of the Moniaive and District Art Association and the Dumfries and Galloway Fine Art Society.
Emma McLauchlan
Emma is a contemporary Scottish artist whose paintings identify strongly with Scotland, its people and its coastal views.
Having grown up in Troon where she was heavily influenced by the landscape surrounding her, she painted many scenes of the golf course and seascapes looking out towards Arran. Having began her art career painting landscapes and seascapes she then became inspired by the movement and architecture of the cities. Enjoying the busy scenes they presented and capturing the movement of people going about their daily life.
Emma is represented in multiple galleries throughout Scotland and also exhibits at various locations in the UK throughout the year as part of competitions and exhibitions.
Linda Charles
Linda Charles was born in 1969 in the Southeast of England. After attending Herriot Watt University in Scotland where she studied textiles and fashion launched a full time career as a professional artist in the late 90’s. This background in textile and fashion has been evident throughout her work which is heavily textured and makes use of many forms of mixed media including gold and silver leaf.
With a career spanning over 25 years Linda continues to use her vast experience and enjoys exploring new techniques and mediums to produce striking collections. In the early 2000’s Linda became one of the most prolific abstract artists throughout the UK. At the advent of the interior design boom, Linda’s use of structure, texture, bold colours and gold and silver leaf propelled her into mainstream contemporary art. Her original pieces became collectable and still feature in many galleries and private collections all over the world.
Iain Faulkner
Iain Faulkner is a British figurative painter, born and raised in Glasgow. He eschews the concepts of contemporary art, preferring the more demanding style of figurative art. He uses techniques of draughtsmanship to ensure his paintings are spaced realistically.
Iain’s art consists mainly of strong, powerful images in a hyper-realistic style. Designed for impact, his characters portray a stillness and introspection. He uses the technique of chiaroscuro, to play with light and shadows, emphasising those contemplative, melancholy moments. Iain Faulkner paints almost exclusively male characters, confident and well-dressed. However, he explores the male psyche with his work, what goes on behind the facade. Vintage cars and whiskeys often add to the atmosphere.
Hamish Herd
Born in South African and now based in the United Kingdom, Hamish has been passionate about art since his earliest memories and has always been actively involved in the creative process. After finishing his studies with Art History as his major Hamish started his career teaching Art at Secondary school level. It wasn’t long before he became a full time Professional and 25 years later is still passionate about producing excellence in every work. Hamish works in both the sculpture and painting disciplines and draws on his faith for inspiration in every piece of Art.
Elaine Boylan
Elaine was born in Ayrshire, Scotland, in 1965, and has a degree in textile design.
After graduating, she went to London and worked in the studio of renowned textile designer, Pat Albeck, and briefly for Zandra Rhodes. When she returned to Glasgow she rented a studio with a close friend and worked freelance. They sold designs for interior and fashion textiles in the UK, Europe, USA and Asia. Looking for something new, Elaine went into teaching and taught in secondary schools in Scotland for 24 years.
Elaine and her husband took early retirement in 2021 and moved to Gümüşlük, where they had a house for several years. This has given her time and space for her artwork and writing.
Yvonne Hair
Born and brought up in Perth, Scotland, Yvonne graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in 1991 with a BA(hons) in Fine Art (Drawing and Painting).
Her work is inspired by the Scottish landscape; it’s lonely beauty and ingrained history. She paints mainly large oils on canvas and also enjoys using pastels and charcoal for smaller pieces.
Elaine works from her garden studio, surrounded by nature, in the shadow of Huntingtower Castle near Perth.
